About Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi
Jaya Sri Maha Bodi the most revered and sacred tree in Sri Lanka that is also considered as the order tree in the world that is with a recorded history.
Originated from a sapling of the holy Sri Maha Bodhi Bo tree in Bodhi Gaya India which is said to have sheltered Lord Buddha while he attained enlightenment, the sacred tree is considered as a historical and a cultural heritage in Sri Lanka with a history of more than 2200 of years.
Sri Maha Bodhi is revered, and worshiped by the domestic and international pilgrims who comes here to witness and worship the sacred tree.
Location
Sri Maha Bodhi is located in the Mahamewna Gardens in scared Anuradhapura city. If you are proceeding to Sri Mah Bodi from Colombo the drive will be a bit hectic due to the distance and it will take at least about 4 to 5 hours to reach there.
If you are traveling by public transport the drive will get further hectic as you may not find a transfer on time or may be the transfer will get delayed. You can travel by bus, train or a private transfer and if you are heading to Sri Maha Bodhi from Anuradhapura you may get into a tuk or a bus to reach the site.
Best time to visit
Usually Sri Maha Bodhi Anuradhapura would always find crowded but if you make the visit during the peak pilgrims seasons and the festive time whereas you will find the site with oozing crowds. Usually the months of June and then from December to January the place may find more crowded. Also on every month full moon day which is locally known as “poya” day may also find the place is a bit overcrowded.
Sri Maha Bodhi Anuradhapura is a year around site that you are welcomed at any time of the year. If you can avoid the crowded day you may find some relaxing time at this beautiful holly cultural and historic site.
Also, located at one of the most driest places in Sri Lanka the destination of Anuradhapura where Sri Maha Bodhiya is situated may find a bit hot during the day time and so as it would be much recommended if you can visit the place during the morning and the evening hours that will make you feel comfortable.
