How to get to Ravana Cave from Ella
The historic Ravana Cave is located about 2km towards outside of Ella about 3km off from Ella – wellawaya road. Once you heading to Ravana Ella temple you can make about 2km climb uphill to get to the site.
Geographical formations wise the site is located about 1370 meters from sea level. So as you have to get there by a climb through a steep landscape.
The place is accessible by a series of about 650 steps. And the steps are so uneven that will make your feel the climb is a bit challenging. Also, the last few meters would be further challenging as there is no firm steps other than some rock formations, and also there would be nothing to hold to support the climb.
What to expect at Ravana’s Cave
Being one of the historic and cultural heritage in Sri Lanka, Ravana’s cave is revered by not just the pilgrims who visit here but also by the travelers who seek some adventures experience.
The cave is accessible by a 2km trekking to uphill which has about 650 steps, and you will exposed to some spectacular views to get the best of nature.
Ravana cave is also allowing you to explore famous Ravana Raja Maha Viharaya and one of the most beautiful natural pond which says located at the underground of the tunnel, Nil Diya Pokuna.
Entry fee
The site has a fair charge for the entry which is about 150 LKR for locals and for foreign visitors it would be around 259 LKR which is less than 1 USD.
Opening times
Ravana Cave is opened throughout the year for its tourists from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm.
Best time to visit
The historic site Ravana’s Cave is “year round” opened tourist and cultural attraction. Yet if you would like to avoid heat then best recommend to visit the site in the morning hours and also in the evening whereas the weather would not much affect your visit.
Ravana Cave generally found as a place that is not so much crowded. But in case if you prefer to have some solid and relaxing time at the legendary cave so then yes morning and the evening hours the cave may find deserted.
